Handling The Traffic
You can’t get round Lagos traffic so here’s some useful advice:
1. Try as much as possible to reduce travel time to it’s barest minimum especially for the kids. Work, home and school should be located as close as possible; if you can’t have it all, don’t comprise on the school-home distance.
2. Having two cars is not a luxury if you have kids - ‘darting’ to school from work to pick up the kids during the day is not an easy feat as the word ‘darting’ does not exist in the Lagos volcabulary.
3. Forget the luxury sedan and get a good 4x4! There are some very good back-routes waiting to be discovered that will cut your journey time in half especially when it rains.
4. If at all possible, get a portable DVD player for your 4x4 - turn hours in traffic into exciting times for the kids (irritable kids in traffic is not a good combination).
