Proverbs 3: 25 – 26 ‘Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.’

THE TERROR VACCINE

In these times of uncertainty, fear of terrorist attacks and political upheaval all around the world, what hope is there for the child of God?  I like that phrase…child of God.  Child of the One who makes the heavens His throne and the earth His footstool.  Child of the One who is called ‘The Almighty’.  The One who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire.  In the beginning, He weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance.  He stretched out the heavens like a curtain and measured the waters of the earth in the hollow of His hands and held the dust of the earth in a basket.  He is Omnipresent, everywhere present… not just aware of everything, but present everywhere.  There is no part of the universe where His presence is absent.  All matter is contained in Him.  Even time resides in Him.  He is Omnipotent – all powerful, there is nothing impossible with Him.  There are no limits with Jehovah – there is nothing He cannot do and nothing He will not do for His people who put their trust in Him.

Against this background of an appreciation of who God is, Solomon admonishes:  Do not be afraid of sudden terror nor trouble from the wicked when it comes, for the Lord – the Elohim, the self-existent One, the One who needs nothing outside Himself to fulfill His will; the only Creator, He will be your confidence and He will keep your foot from being caught.

Solomon had seen this confidence in God deliver his father many times from impossible situations.  For it was his father David that said, in Psalm 27:1-3:

‘The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear
The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies
and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.  Though an army besiege
me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I
    be confident’ (NIV).

Moses was no stranger to this kind of confidence either, for in Psalm 91 he admonished Israel to trust in Elohim:

‘If you make the Most High your dwelling, even the Lord, who is
my refuge, then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near
 your tent’ verse 9-10 (NIV)

And how does the Lord respond to this display of faith and confidence in Him?

‘Because he loves me says the Lord, I will rescue him; I will protect him,
for he acknowledges My name.  He will call upon Me, and I will answer him…’    verse 14 – 15 (NIV)

As we make Him our refuge and walk in confidence in His protection, He will surely give His angels charge over us to guard us in all our ways.

So shake the dust of fear off your feet and receive the vaccine against fear, which is a heart established in confidence in our God; for those that are with us are much greater than any opposing force!
